Since time immemorial, the Kailash-Man Sarovar, nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, has been a symbol of faith in the hearts of every Hindu, not just as an attraction. It is the aspiration of every Hindu to touch the holy land there, enjoy it, and be filled with devotion and be fulfilled once in a lifetime.
Mount Kailash, considered the center of the earth, is located in western Tibet. The Vedas and Puranas have also sung the glory of Mount Kailash, which is the abode of Mahadev, the destructive power, Parvati, the mother of the universe, and Ganapati, the giver of Riddhi and Siddhi. The gigantic snow-like Shivalinga form of Kailash itself awakens devotion in the consciousness of the devotees as if it were the form of Shiva.
Located at an altitude of 15,100 feet between the Main Kailash mountain range and the Gurlamandhata mountain range in Tibet, Mansarovar is a very sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus. This sacred lake, which has unparalleled natural beauty, has the roots of the Sutlej, Laj, Indus, Brahmaputra and Karnali rivers. It is also believed that the Ganges river originates from here. It is a Hindu's aspiration to attain virtue by bathing in the crystal clear water of the mind.
Kailash is also considered a holy place among Jains and they consider it as Ashtapada Tirtha. Gautam Swami asked Lord Mahavir, why is my salvation not happening to me? Then Lord Mahavir said that by visiting Ashtapada or touching Ashtapada, the soul can attain salvation in this very birth. According to history, Gautam Swami was the first to visit Ashtapada, inspired by the teachings of Lord Mahavir. The first Tirthankara was Lord Adinath, who attained Nirvana at Ashtapada. According to Jain scriptures, by visiting Ashtapada, sins are destroyed and virtue arises. And the pilgrim is freed from the cycle of births and becomes a seeker of salvation.
